Stanley Kubrick, 1947

“Kubrick was just 19 years old when he took this photo: Judge “King Kong” Coffee checks if contestant’s knee touches floor, 1947. Judge Coffee was known as one of the best floor judges in the dance marathon business, popularized during the Great Depression. He had a reputation for being so harsh in his rulings that he once had to be escorted to his hotel by eight policemen after a competition. ”
