Los Angeles’ Brew Well coffee shop celebrates its one-year anniversary today in the true spirit of community. A community of creatives were selected – fourteen in all including myself – to donate a photo for Brew Well’s Instagram square art exhibit. We were given the theme ‘community’ with all proceeds from the show going towards an organization called Freedom and Fashion which helps 36 girl survivors of domestic and sexual abuse in Los Angeles.
I think doing good in the community is so important. As well, to use ones platform and space, be it on a site like this, or in a coffee shop like Brew Well’s to raise social awareness about universal issues is endearing and necessary.
I must admit I was really torn about what photo to use for the exhibit, since community evokes so many things. Community reminds me of people, huddles and crowds. It reminds me of being one of many, among many or even a few. Here’s my runner-up photo.
For the one I did choose, well, we’ll just have to wait and see when the gallery opens tonight. They’ll be a live d.j.; ice cream bars: blackberry pear, apple pie, samoas and of course coffee – specialty ones.
Go for the cause and stay for the cause. The party starts at 8 p.m. tonight, July 12th, PST. And, if you’re so inclined have a coffee and buy a photo anytime while the exhibit is up. #cupUp
