when Jack and Nick talk about being drafted for the Vietnam war in episode 4 of this seasons’, @NBCThisisUs and a coffee is between them, it signals comfort in a situation that is far from it.
but if any thing can be something that can come into the intimacy of humans wrestling with ideas and dates that they may otherwise not want to confront or choose it’s a good mug of coffee.
while the show does lead to another scene, in a bar, where the two brothers further discuss Nick’s fear of being drafted, it’s this first encounter, in a familiar place, that reminds us the power of sharing owns vulnerabilities in spaces that allowed for pure emotion.
