Because coffee shops play music and baristas make coffee to music, documenting what’s played at National Coffee Competitions is this culture’s jam. For Day one of the Austin Qualifier there was everything from rap, hip-hop, R&B, to Latin remixes and instrumental tunes. These song selections were played in unison to thematic routines, statements of intentions and to underscore the philosophies baristas proposed during their routines as evidenced here.
