A few months ago, I asked myself, could smdlr fit these requirements? 1.) Owned by a black person? 2.) Less than a year old as of the day of submission? Yes! And, that is the reason why smdlr is being celebrated as the “New Blogger on the Block” by the Black Weblog Awards.
The Black Weblog Awards was founded in 2005 “to give recognition to Black bloggers (and those of the African diaspora) which were largely overlooked by other Internet award events.” Well, I am included in that entire definition. While new to the hemisphere of blogging, documenting, creating and curating for smdlr, I decided to submit smdlr to this Black Weblog Awards feature.
Months later, on December 3rd, I received a Twitter alert notifying me that smdlr was selected as their “new blogger on the block.” I’m quite honored and flattered to be among their diaspora of new bloggers. Thank you Black Weblog awards and as always, thank you – the readers – for giving me a coffee break of your time each day.
Now, I think I’ll go celebrate with coffee, cupUP. cde
